Getting Here from There – Gillian Morden

For the last year I have worked exclusively on Abstraction. Most of my compositions have originated from numerous thumbnail sketches based on organic forms.

One interesting aspect of the process is how the image evolves once I start working with paint: layers of transparent paint to begin with- then gradually moving to opaque leaving traces of the layers beneath.

Sometimes the painting seems to acquire a mind of it’s own. When finished it has evolved into an image I had not envisioned at the outset.  It’s as though the painting knows where it wants to go.

Here are 2 examples of this occurrence:
