Terry Sullivan – Watercolour & Acrylic
Born in London, UK, I trained as an Architect, qualifying in the mid 1980’s. As a specialist in Healthcare design in 2012 I chose to transfer to the Toronto studio to strengthen the team there.
I decided to retire in 2014 to fulfill a lifelong dream to build a house while still physically able. My wife Sally and I settled into Haliburton the same year and began building. The build, where we undertook everything that did not require specialist equipment or certification, took us 3 years.
Having successfully completed the house I have now turned my attention back to my real love, Art, in various forms.
The Watercolour and Acrylic paintings are generally studio produced from sketches, Plein Air studies and photographs. I prefer to depict landscape and buildings, making the best use of my architectural training. The subject matter is a combination of local scenes along with other Canadian and overseas subjects. The style varies from a formal treatment to a looser, simpler handling as the topic demands.
All the paintings are original, prepared by hand, with no artificial aids in setting up or execution.
I make use of recycled materials wherever possible. I make studio canvas’s for Acrylics from recycled timber. Other acrylics are painted direct on recycled birch faced ply off-cuts. Most of the frames are made from recycled timber and the glazing, where necessary, is from recycled doubled glazed units
I also undertake commissions, preparing bespoke paintings as unique gifts.
I have displayed at various local arts festivals, including Haliburton Arts and Crafts, Haliburton the Tour De Forest Studio Tour in Haliburton, Victoria County Studio Tour and Highlands East Studio Tour.
