I enjoy trying new things with my work in ceramics…..  new to me, as nothing is really NEW.  I took a workshop at the Peterborough Potters’ Guild last spring and that got me thinking that maybe I would enjoy exploring brush work with my pottery.  I have done brush work off and on over the years but I thought it would be fun to go bigger and looser.

I started playing with some ideas…..

First I had to think about what I would draw because I needed to throw or build a piece to accommodate the design.   Then, once the pieces were bisque fired, I drew out the design.  I was looking for a flowing design, something loose and kind of fun.  Once that was done, I had to think about adding colour to the design.  I used a number of underglazes that I have.   As a final step, the top glaze needed to be considered.

One idea always leads to another……….  That’s the fun part!  Once these pieces were done, I started playing with a texturing technique.

Keeping it fresh to me means that I am constantly looking for new-to-me ways to work with clay.

Janet’s next shift in the gallery is May 17th.
